Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@stoicsoul.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Counselling is a space to slow down and talk honestly about what you’re carrying.

People seek counselling for many reasons — sometimes because life feels heavy or overwhelming, and other times because something simply feels out of alignment. You do not need a diagnosis, a crisis, or a clear explanation to begin.

Counselling is not about being “fixed.” It is a collaborative process that supports understanding, skill-building, and the development of practical ways to cope with life’s challenges, while finding steadiness in the midst of change. Many clients leave sessions with new perspectives, small practices to try, or clearer next steps.

Many people start counselling because they’re unsure — not because they’re certain.

If something feels difficult, confusing, or unsustainable, that’s often reason enough to explore support. The consultation and introductory session exist to help you decide whether this feels like a good fit, without pressure or obligation.

The complimentary consultation is a relaxed conversation where you can:

  • Ask questions about counselling or my approach

  • Share a bit about what’s bringing you here

  • Get a sense of whether working together feels right

This is not a counselling session and does not involve assessment or treatment. There is no expectation to continue unless it feels right to you.

The introductory session is a brief, structured conversation that helps us begin thoughtfully.

During this session, we may:

  • Talk through your concerns and goals

  • Review consent and confidentiality

  • Discuss how counselling might look for you

  • Decide together on next steps

For administrative and insurance purposes, this session may be considered an initial assessment.

Session fees are:

  • 15-minute consultation: Complimentary

  • 30-minute introductory session (initial assessment): $75

  • 30-minute parent/caregiver check-in session: $75

  • 45-minute parent/caregiver consultation: $150

  • 60-minute counselling session: $150

  • 90-minute individual counselling session: $210

  • 90-minute group counselling session: $100

Fees are discussed openly, and there are no hidden costs.

Many extended health plans provide coverage for counselling services offered by a Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling (MPCC-Provisional).

I offer direct billing for many extended benefit plans (e.g., Green Shield, Sun Life, Telus eClaims). Coverage varies by plan — detailed receipts are provided for reimbursement.

MPCC-Provisional refers to my professional designation and registration status with the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA).

As a provisional practitioner, I practise under ongoing clinical supervision and adhere to the CPCA’s ethical standards, scope of practice guidelines, and continuing professional development requirements.

Many extended health benefit plans recognize and provide coverage for counselling services provided by MPCC-Provisional practitioners, though coverage varies by provider and individual plan.

Counselling services are offered both in person and online.

Some clients prefer the steadiness of meeting in person, while others find online sessions more accessible or better suited to their schedules and circumstances. Both formats are approached with the same level of care, professionalism, and confidentiality.

If you’re unsure which option is right for you, this can be discussed during the consultation or introductory session.

Sessions are collaborative and individually tailored.

Some sessions are conversation-based and reflective. Others may include emotional processing or optional mindfulness- or body-aware practices, depending on your preferences. There is no single “right” way for a session to look.

You are always welcome to share what feels helpful — and what doesn’t.

You are welcome to come as you are — with clarity, confusion, questions, or uncertainty. Part of my role is to help you make sense of what feels important to explore.

That said, many clients find it helpful to arrive with a few thoughts about what they’d like support with, or what they hope might feel different over time. This might include goals, concerns, or patterns you’ve been noticing — and these can also emerge gradually through the process.

Sessions are offered in a calm, welcoming space. In-person clients are invited to help themselves to hot or cold beverages, and a comfortable environment grounded in compassion and care.

If you’re reading this quietly, wondering whether counselling might help, you’re not alone — and you don’t need to have it all figured out before reaching out.
